Colostrum improves hydration, boosts skin repair, and may reduce visible signs of aging by supporting collagen and barrier health. This natural milk-derived ingredient offers nutrient-rich anti-aging support, especially for dry, fragile, or sensitive skin types seeking real results.
Colostrum isn’t hype, it’s one of skincare’s most potent natural actives for aging skin.
Derived from the first milk produced by mammals, it’s rich in growth factors, immunoglobulins, and nutrients that help support collagen production, soothe inflammation, and strengthen the skin’s barrier.
At KarinaNYC, we’ve used colostrum-based serums and treatments for years, especially for clients navigating dryness, barrier damage, and early signs of skin aging.
If you’ve been wondering whether colostrum is worth the investment, this guide unpacks everything. Let’s explore how this “liquid gold” works, and how to use it effectively.
Colostrum 101: Nature’s Answer to Tired, Aging Skin

If you’ve never heard of colostrum in skincare before, get ready, because this one is a game changer.
Colostrum is the nutrient-rich first milk produced by mammals right after giving birth. It’s packed with immune factors, proteins, and growth factors meant to help newborns thrive.
In skincare, we’re using bovine colostrum, which is incredibly close in composition to what our skin actually recognizes and responds to, especially when the goal is regeneration.
What drew me to colostrum all those years ago was the results.
You know how people chase that dewy, plump, just-had-a-facial glow? Colostrum does that, but it goes deeper. It restores function. It helps fragile, aging skin remember how to act young again.
Where Colostrum Comes From
The colostrum used in professional skincare like ours is ethically sourced within the first 24 to 48 hours post-calving. That window matters.
That’s when the concentration of actives, like immunoglobulins, growth factors, and peptides, is highest.
From there, it’s carefully processed into a powder or liposomal form to retain potency. The formulas we work with at KarinaNYC are rigorously tested. We don’t just stock anything labeled “colostrum.”
We look at how it performs on real skin, in real time. If it doesn’t deliver, we don’t carry it. Period.
How Colostrum Helps With Aging Skin
Now, here’s where it gets exciting. Colostrum isn’t just another hydrating serum. It actively teaches the skin how to function better as it ages. Let’s break it down:
- It stimulates collagen production. Colostrum is rich in natural growth factors, especially TGF (Transforming Growth Factor), which encourages skin to build new, firming collagen. That’s how we soften the look of fine lines and improve elasticity, especially in areas like the neck, cheeks, and around the mouth.
- It supports barrier function. Mature skin often struggles to retain moisture. Colostrum strengthens the lipid matrix, reducing trans-epidermal water loss and making skin more resilient to wind, cold, and pollution.
- It reduces oxidative stress. Colostrum has been shown to help protect telomere length in fibroblasts (your skin’s structural cells), especially under stress. That means it’s literally helping to preserve the skin’s “biological clock.”
- It soothes inflammation and fights bacteria. With ingredients like lactoferrin and immunoglobulins, colostrum is a dream for reactive or acne-prone aging skin. It calms, comforts, and clears, without stripping.
- It enhances regeneration. Skin treated with colostrum shows increased fibroblast proliferation, which is just a fancy way of saying: more building blocks, faster healing, and better texture over time.
Colostrum for Aging Skin: Soothing, Strengthening, Rebuilding

If you’ve ever sat in my treatment room and said, “Karina, my skin just feels dry all the time,” chances are I reached for colostrum. Dry, aging skin isn’t just thirsty, it’s struggling to hold onto hydration.
Colostrum, with its naturally occurring hyaluronic acid and soothing proteins, pulls moisture in and helps it stay put. It restores that soft, cushioned feeling to complexions that feel tight, rough, or reactive.
I especially love using Serum Colostrum VG during colder months, when skin is lipid-depleted and vulnerable.
It’s a go-to for menopausal clients, too, the blend of growth factors and barrier support makes skin feel “alive” again.
And when someone’s recovering from a peel, laser, or a bit of over-exfoliation, colostrum often means the difference between days of redness and a weekend of graceful healing.
Key Nutrients In Colostrum That Support Aging Skin
Colostrum is naturally complex, almost like a whole wardrobe of skincare in one ingredient. Here’s why mature skin responds so well to it:
- Growth factors: These little messengers encourage cell turnover and support collagen. Over time, that means firmer, smoother, more resilient skin, without the irritation you’d get from harsher anti-aging tools.
- Immunoglobulins: These help calm inflammation, a major driver of accelerated aging. If your skin is always pink, flushed, or easily irritated, these are your new best friend.
- Lactoferrin: I love this one for clients with adult acne. It has natural antibacterial properties that help calm breakouts without stripping or drying the skin.
- Telomerase enzymes: This is the part that still amazes me, even after 25 years in the industry. Colostrum supports the protection of telomeres, the little caps on your DNA that shorten with age. When we slow that process, everything from texture to tone improves.
What Not To Use With Colostrum
Now, let’s talk about what not to pair with colostrum. I see a lot of well-intentioned mistakes here.
- Avoid strong exfoliants or retinol in the same routine.
Colostrum is powerful but gentle. Retinol and AHAs/BHAs are powerful but not gentle. Using them together can confuse the skin and weaken the barrier. Alternate nights or cycle them based on your skin condition. - Don’t layer Colostrum VG with other hydrating serums.
This is a big one. Clients love to mix “all the hydrating things,” but more isn’t always better. If you’re using Serum Colostrum VG, skip Amniotique or other water serums. They can overwhelm the skin and lead to congestion or pilling. Choose one, based on season and how your skin feels. - Be cautious with heavy oils.
If an oil is too occlusive, it can block the penetration of colostrum’s actives. Stick to lighter finishing serums like Serum Complexe Royal or something barrier-focused like TEWL if you need lipid support.
Is Serum Colostrum VG Better In The AM Or PM?
I prefer it at night, when the skin is naturally in repair mode. It's also when you’re least likely to layer it with sunscreens, makeup, and other interfering actives.
But for very dry or sensitized skin, AM use can be incredibly comforting.
Does It Clog Pores Or Cause Breakouts?
Colostrum itself doesn’t clog pores, it's not an oil-based serum at all. But overusing it, pairing it with too many hydrating layers, or applying it on top of heavy creams can.
Moderation and proper layering make all the difference. When used correctly, even acne-prone clients do beautifully on it.
Biologique Recherche Formulas That Do More Than Just Hydrate
If you’ve been with me long enough, you know I’m obsessed with skincare that actually works. Not what’s trending. Not what’s pretty on a shelf. What delivers.
And when it comes to colostrum, these five Biologique Recherche formulas have earned their place in my treatment room, and in my clients’ routines.
1. Sérum Colostrum VG

This is the star of the show. Sérum Colostrum VG is our go-to for deep, comforting hydration, especially when skin is dry, depleted, or feeling fragile.
I recommend using it alone in the evening, after your P50 and moisturizer, particularly during colder months when skin loses moisture faster.
It’s not a lipid serum (common misconception!), so if you need that lipid layer, we pair it with a finishing serum or TEWL, not another hydrating serum.
2. Creme Masque Vernix VG

This is Masque Vernix’s more versatile sister. Crème Masque Vernix can be used as a treatment mask or a moisturizer. Clients recovering from barrier damage love using this as a daily cream, it’s deeply comforting, helps seal in colostrum’s benefits, and supports longer-term repair.
If your skin feels “tight but oily,” this may not be your match. But for truly dry, aging, or post-procedure skin? It’s magic.
3. Crème Dermo-RL

Crème Dermo-RL is a lifesaver for skin that’s both aging and lipid-depleted. It contains colostrum, ceramides, and essential fatty acids, all of which work together to restore comfort, elasticity, and a strong barrier.
I turn to this when a client’s skin feels dry and tight, especially after long flights, cold weather, or post-treatment dryness.
It’s rich, yes, but not greasy. Clients love how nourished their skin feels without heaviness. If your skin feels like it's begging for structure, this cream steps in with strength and softness.
4. Toleskin [C] + Toleskin [M]

Toleskin [C] (a calming cream) and Toleskin [M] (a sterile mask) are incredible when paired with Colostrum VG, especially for hypersensitive, eczema-prone, or post-treatment clients.
They help soothe, protect, and reduce reactivity while colostrum works its cellular magic underneath.
When someone walks in with red, angry skin, this is where I start.
5. Crème Biofixine

If fine lines are starting to settle in and your skin is feeling thinner or less elastic, Crème Biofixine is one of my go-to moisturizers; but only if you have oily or combination skin.
This is a very light, fast-absorbing formula specifically designed not to overwhelm oily or congestion-prone skin. It smooths and visibly softens expression lines over time, while keeping the skin balanced and comfortable.
It contains colostrum for an added boost of skin-repairing nourishment, without the weight of a heavy cream. I recommend it for clients looking to firm and smooth early line, especially those not quite ready for injectables.
It layers well under makeup and offers structure without excess moisture, making it ideal for oily or combination skin; but it’s not suitable for dry types.
The Difference Between Just Using Colostrum and Using It Right

If you’ve been layering product after product and still feel like your skin is dull, dry, or just not improving, I see you. Our clinic is full of women (and men) who’ve tried every “hydrating serum” under the sun, only to find nothing really sticks.
That’s where we come in.
At KarinaNYC, our clients don’t want fluff. They want real results. And we deliver because we actually know your skin. Not from a quiz. From experience.
Here’s what sets us apart:

From seasonal facials to post-procedure healing protocols, we use Colostrum VG clinically, where it shines. Clients love how their skin feels instantly calm, resilient, and deeply hydrated. It’s not magic. It’s method.
