Serum Colostrum VG hydrates dry, fragile skin using plant-based actives like Luffa Oil and Saccharide Isomerate. Its lipid-rich formula strengthens the barrier, calms irritation, and relieves tightness, ideal for winter skin, post-procedure healing, or seasonal dehydration.
When your skin feels dry, tight, or reactive, it’s not just thirsty, it’s injured. Biologique Recherche’s Serum Colostrum VG addresses this by restoring both hydration and barrier integrity, thanks to its unique vegetal formula.
KarinaNYC has this serum as a go-to for clients who need to calm, comfort, and rebuild.
In this guide, we’ll explore the ingredients that make Serum Colostrum VG so effective, what to pair it with, what to avoid, and how to use it wisely. Let’s get into what your skin really needs.
Dry, Tight, or Burning: What Your Skin Is Telling You

Moisturizing is not always about needing more cream, it’s about repairing what’s missing in the skin’s natural barrier.
There’s a big difference between dehydration and dryness
Dehydration means your skin lacks water. Dryness means it lacks oil. Many of my clients actually suffer from both, especially after traveling, during a cold New York winter, or when they’ve gone a little too hard with acids and retinol.
That’s when the skin’s hydrolipidic film, the invisible protective layer that keeps skin soft and resilient, becomes compromised.
When that barrier is damaged, you’ll notice your skin doesn’t just feel uncomfortable; it reacts. Redness, sensitivity, and that paper-thin feeling are all signs your skin is crying out for help.
And no, layering random products won’t fix it. What your skin needs in that moment is comfort, balance, and restoration.
Serum Colostrum VG: A Hydrating Serum That Thinks Like a Moisturizer

Serum Colostrum VG is one of my go-to products when I need to deeply comfort and restore a client’s skin. It’s not just “another serum”, it’s a treatment that delivers hydration and lipids together.
Think of it as a lightweight emulsion that works like a nurturing cushion.
The name confuses many people. “Colostrum” sounds like milk, but there’s no dairy here. The “VG” stands for vegetal, meaning it’s entirely plant-based.
The formula is designed to mimic the soothing, nourishing feel of milk, without using any animal ingredients. It’s like giving your skin a gentle glass of milk after it’s been through too much.
Serum Colostrum VG: Perfect For Some, Too Rich For Others
Serum Colostrum VG is best for dry, fragile, or aging skin, the kind that craves comfort and repair. I also recommend it after peels, lasers, or any treatment that leaves the skin feeling tight and depleted.
However, if you’re very oily, congested, or prone to breakouts, this serum is probably not your match. It can feel too rich and may sit heavily on top of oily skin.
Will It Clog My Pores Or Cause Breakouts?
It won’t, if you’re the right candidate for it.
On true dry or lipid-depleted skin, it absorbs beautifully and leaves a velvety finish. But if your skin is oily or actively breaking out, it may be too much.
That’s where my job comes in: helping you choose the right formula for your skin instant.
How Skin Changes After Using Serum Colostrum VG
When clients start using Serum Colostrum VG, they often tell me the same three things:
- Their tightness and flaking reduce almost immediately, sometimes within the first application.
- Within an hour, their skin feels more hydrated, supple, and resilient.
- And maybe my favorite feedback: they love the velvety texture. It layers beautifully under other Biologique Recherche serums and creams, so it never feels sticky or greasy.
This serum is not flashy or trendy, it’s simply effective. And that’s why it earns a permanent spot in my bathroom cabinet and on my treatment shelves.
Why Serum Colostrum VG Works: Breaking Down The Formula

When I choose a serum for myself or my clients, I don’t just look at the label, I look at the ingredients and how they actually behave on the skin. That’s why I trust Serum Colostrum VG.
It’s built around smart, skin-loving actives that hydrate, soothe, and rebuild where your skin needs it most.
- Luffa Cylindrica Seed Oil – This plant oil is a natural lipid replenisher. It helps rebuild the hydrolipidic film, that delicate shield that keeps your skin strong against the elements. When this barrier is supported, skin feels less tight and more resilient.
- Saccharide Isomerate – A hydration powerhouse. It binds to your skin like a magnet, pulling in water and keeping it there. The beauty of this ingredient is that its effects last well beyond application, sometimes up to 72 hours.
- Biosaccharide Gum-4 – One of my favorite soothing actives. It wraps the skin in a calming layer, reducing redness and helping sensitive or irritated skin feel safe again.
- Alisma Orientale Extract (Water Plantain) – A botanical extract that gently restores balance, especially for skin that flares up from stress, travel, or overuse of actives. It helps quiet irritation and promotes repair.
- Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride – A lightweight emollient that delivers silky softness without heaviness. It locks in moisture but won’t suffocate the skin.
- Tocopherol (Vitamin E) – A protective antioxidant that shields skin from environmental aggressors like pollution. It also contributes to elasticity and smoothness over time.
Together, these ingredients create a formula that doesn’t just hydrate on the surface, it restores comfort and balance deep in the skin. That’s why Serum Colostrum VG works so beautifully for fragile, compromised skin.
What’s The Difference Between Colostrum VG And A Lipid Serum Like TEWL?
This is something I clarify often.
Serum Colostrum VG is hydrating, not occlusive. It restores water and balance while supporting the barrier, but it’s not a heavy lipid shield.
If your skin needs a true lipid layer, especially in extreme cold or after procedures, I often recommend pairing Serum Colostrum VG with Serum TEWL. TEWL seals everything in like a protective coat, while Serum Colostrum VG provides the hydration and comfort underneath.
Together, they’re magic for barrier repair.
What Not To Use With Serum Colostrum VG

I always remind my clients: the right product used the wrong way can backfire. Colostrum VG is a comfort serum, so it shines when paired with supportive products, not when it’s fighting against strong actives.
- Strong exfoliants or harsh actives – While we do recommend prepping the skin with a gentle blend of acids (like Lotion P50, which contains a balanced mix of AHAs and BHAs), not all exfoliation is created equal. Skip aggressive peels, physical scrubs, or overly acidic toners that can overwhelm the barrier.
Lotion P50, especially in the P50W or P50V version depending on your skin type, preps the skin beautifully without stripping it, making it the ideal companion before layering Colostrum VG. - Retinol in the same routine layer – Retinoids and Colostrum VG both serve important purposes, but they don’t belong in the same step. Instead, use retinol at night and Colostrum VG in the morning, or alternate nights to prevent overstressing your skin.
- Other hydrating serums (like Amniotique VG) – I know how tempting it is to pile on hydration, but more isn’t always better. Colostrum VG and Amniotique VG are both hydrating, but in different ways. Amniotique is lighter and more water-binding (perfect for summer), while Colostrum is richer and lipid-supporting (ideal for winter). Choose one depending on the season and your skin’s state.
3 Products That Unlock Colostrum VG’s Full Potential
Over the years, I’ve seen the most beautiful results when Serum Colostrum VG is used as part of a thoughtful routine. Here are my three favorite pairings:
Creme Masque Vernix

This mask is like a reset button for your skin barrier. I often apply it over Serum Colostrum VG in treatments, the mask helps drive the serum deeper while adding its own protective, healing layer.
It’s perfect for anyone whose skin feels raw or overworked.
Serum TEWL

Think of TEWL as your winter coat. Once Colostrum VG delivers hydration and soothing comfort, TEWL locks it in with a breathable lipid shield. It’s especially powerful after flights, ski trips, or cold-weather exposure when skin loses both water and oil.
Crème Grand Millésime

This cream is my finishing touch. After Colostrum VG restores hydration, Crème Grand Millésime steps in with antioxidants and revitalizing actives to keep skin glowing and protected.
It seals in everything beautifully, with the added benefit of softening fine lines and fatigue.
Colostrum VG: Clearing Up The Confusion
Over the years, I’ve heard just about every question when it comes to Colostrum VG. Here are the ones I get most often:
Why Does It Feel Rich If It’s Not An Oil?
That’s the beauty of the formula. It hydrates deeply like water, but the texture feels nourishing because of lipid-restoring actives like Luffa Oil. It’s an emulsion, not a heavy oil.
Will It Worsen Rosacea Or Milia?
For most of my rosacea clients, Colostrum VG is soothing and reduces redness. For those prone to milia, it usually isn’t a trigger, but if your skin is congested, I’ll adjust your routine so it’s not over-layered.
What Does “VG” Actually Mean?
It stands for vegetal. Despite the name “Colostrum,” there’s no dairy or animal-derived colostrum in this serum, only plant-based actives that mimic its comforting qualities.
How Long Does It Last After Opening? Should I Refrigerate It?
Once opened, it’s best used within 6 months for maximum efficacy. You don’t need to refrigerate it, but store it away from heat and direct sunlight.
Will It Clog Pores?
Only if it’s used on the wrong skin type. On dry, fragile skin, it absorbs beautifully. On very oily skin, it may feel heavy.
Does It Work In Humid Climates?
Honestly, it’s best in colder or drier conditions. For humid summers, I often switch clients to Amniotique VG instead.
Is It Vegan-Friendly?
Yes. Despite the name, Colostrum VG is fully plant-based and cruelty-free.
Your Skin Doesn’t Need More Hype. It Needs Recovery.

I’ve been in this industry for decades, and I’ve tested everything under the sun. What I know for sure is that most skincare out there doesn’t deliver.
Serum Colostrum VG does. It comforts, restores, and rebuilds skin that’s been pushed too far.
At KarinaNYC, I don’t just sell products, I work with clients who are serious about aging beautifully. Whether your skin feels tight from travel, dry from winter, or sensitive from overuse of actives, Serum Colostrum VG is one of my secret weapons for getting skin back on track.
It’s not about quick fixes, it’s about long-term skin health.
